Hi Parents-
Week four came and went quickly! Your kiddos are doing such a fantastic job, and I love seeing their smiling faces each day!
This week in Language Arts, we discussed the word family -an, sight word 'my', and concepts of print. We worked on the letter "F" in Handwriting Without Tears, and used our mini chalk boards to practice. That was a hit! :)
We continued to work in our draft books to build writing stamina, and discussed the purpose of writing. Readers Workshop focused on the parts of a book, as well as Elbow Partner reading...which describes the rules/expectations for reading in partners.
In Math, we focused on the numbers 1-5. We identified the places in our daily lives that we see math (everywhere!), and introduced a 5 frame. We made a life size 5 frame, and we took turns acting out how to identify five. We also used a Power Point activity to utilize our math skills.
Science was all about Weather! We learned a lot of new vocabulary, and made daily observations that we recorded on a class calendar...as well as in our science journals. We also discussed the roles of meteorologist, and took a walk outside to use our senses to identify the weather.
Social Studies consisted of mini lessons that targeted being a good citizen. We had several books that are familiar to the students, and we discussed which ones displayed good citizen choices, and well as poor choices. We then came up with alternative choices for those not so good choices the characters made, and discussed the reasons why.
We begin our Star Student this week! Lior is up first! I've posted the list of Star Students and their dates here on the website.
Upcoming Events/Dates:
Wednesday, September 23: Early Release. The students are released at 12:45. Please make sure you have a plan in place for your child.
Thursday, October 1: Fall pictures (These will also be used for the yearbook.)
Tuesday, October 6: Kindergarten Open House @ 5:30
Friday, November 13: Field Day! (please notice date change)
Additional Info:
Scholastic book orders have shipped, and should be here within the next few business days. If you placed an order, I will email you when they arrive. I'll send them home with your child in their backpack.
Just a reminder that the school policy is that we no longer can have birthday treats in the classroom. I have a fun hat for them to wear, and we will celebrate by singing and reading birthday books throughout the day. I also will send home our class "Birthday Bag" with a small surprise and lots of fun birthday activities to complete!
Our September birthdays are:
Jude- 4th
Lior- 22nd
Ashton- 23rd
Tuesday folders will be going home on Friday this week, and will need to be returned the following Monday.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Please let me know if you have any thoughts or feedback!
