Last week in Language Arts, we focused on nonfiction texts and the format of these books. You may have noticed that your kiddo brought home a nonfiction book from the library. Ms. Wimmer introduced them to this section of the library, and they were asked to choose a book from that area this past visit. We worked on the sight words 'on' and 'and', along with the word family -et. We also learned how to use CVC (consonant vowel consonant) to decode. In Handwriting Without Tears we focused on H, K. We discussed using adjectives and details to tell a story in Writer's Workshop.
In math, we continued to work on number sense 0-10. We discovered the different ways to make ten, and we worked with dominoes to reinforce these skills and to target number identification.
In Science, we learned about Fall. We sorted leaves by color (thanks for bringing these in!), and plan to complete our nature scavenger hunt this week due to rain last week.
In Social Studies, we completed our community helper unit. We had a visit from the fire department, and the Williamson County Sheriff. The kids learned a lot, and had a blast!
Our Reading folders also began this week. These will come home on Tuesday/Thursdays, and should be returned the following day. I know how busy the evenings are, so please feel free to keep them an extra day or two if needed...please just send me an email to let me know. The kiddos are doing a great job in their guided reading groups!
