This week we enjoyed having Sophia as our Star Student. Elaina will be next during the week of November 2nd.
In Language Arts, we discussed how stories are organized and key events. We identified the problems/solutions in a story. We reviewed the purpose for reading/listening to a story, as well as retelling a story we have already read. We learned the correct form for "m" in Handwriting Without Tears. In Writer's Workshop we focused on capitalization, punctuation, and spaces.
In Math, we focused on number sense up to the number 10. We explored ways to make ten with the magnetic ten frame. We learned about identifying numbers that are before, after, and in between a given number(s).
In Science, we wrapped up our unit of the changes in properties. We did more experiments with adding heat to items (marshmallows, butter, ice), and then observed them after they cooled to evaluate their differences.
In Social Studies, we discussed community helpers. We focused on how they help the community, and what tools they need to do their job successfully. The kiddos did a great job on their presentations describing their parents' jobs this past Friday! :)
We also had two guest teachers teach lessons with our class this week! Ms. Lacourse (Technology) came and taught a lesson on algorithms with the students, and they LOVED it. Ms. Denkler (TAG: talented and gifted) also came to our class to teach an enrichment lesson. It was fun, and they learned a lot!
Special Request:
We are requesting for students to bring in pumpkins for an upcoming unit. We are requesting various colors, shapes, sizes and textures. Thanks in advance!
Upcoming Dates:
October 28th: Early Release @ 12:45

There will be two TAG information meetings if you would like to learn more about the TAG program. They will be held on Tuesday, October 27 at 6:00 pm in the library, and Wednesday, October 28 at 8:00 am in the cafeteria.
