Hi Parents-
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
This week Nicolas will be our Star Student, and we are looking forward to learning more about him! Dariel was our class photographer, and I emailed his iMovie. We'll also be celebrating the following birthdays this week!
16th: Nicolas
18th: Kyli
18th: Vivienne
18th: Grace
21st: Sofie
22nd: James
(The birthday bag will go around, but will take a bit of time due to so many birthdays close together....but hey, it keeps the birthday celebrations going!)
We earned the Golden Shoe this week!! I was so proud, because they have been working VERY hard to be great leaders in the hallway!
We learned about measurement this week in math. We explored with organizing classroom items by length. We used a string that was the same height of each kiddo to measure around the classroom to find items shorter and taller than each of us. We continued to work on problem solving. We are working on counting from 1-100 daily, as well as counting down from 20.
In Language Arts we focused on Media Literacy. We learned how there are many types of media, and how it is important to understand advertisements and fact/opinions. Thanks so much for sending in the ads! They had a great time coming up with their own commercials convincing others why they should buy it! In Writer's Workshop, we learned about writing captions for pictures. In phonics we focused on identifying ending sounds in words.
We had a great experience learning about voting in kindergarten! We voted in our kindergarten election for spirit day. They had their registration cards ready, and waited their turn in the long lines at the polls! :) We also read Duck for President and Grace for President, and compared the characters and the qualities of each candidate. The class then voted, and Grace won as our choice for who we felt made the best president.
We have also been observing our Jack-o-lantern that we placed in the courtyard to see how it decomposes. We took pictures of it when we first carved it, then a week later, and will finally take our last picture next week. Let's just say that it doesn't quite look like a Jack-o-lantern any longer!!
Seesaw:
I wanted to send one more request to encourage you to sign up to have access your child's online portfolio through Seesaw. Not only is your child uploading work samples or projects on a weekly basis, but I found this week that I was able to send a picture/video of an activity we were in the process of completing to every child's account as soon as I took it. I love the idea of the parents being able to be a part of our learning experience while it's happening! Thanks so much for those who have signed up already! My goal is to have each student add work 2 to 3 times a week, and for me to add pictures/videos consistently as well. If you would like to sign up, here is the link:

I am so excited to share that our class received a grant through Donorschoose! It is an organization that is dedicated to classroom teachers, and donors can choose to donate money to classrooms of their choice. I created a page through their website to request six Ozobot starter packs to teach students about coding and programing a few months ago, and it was recently fully funded! They arrived last week, and I can't wait to get started! Here is a link to the product so you have an idea of what it does:

As a recipient of the grant, we are asked to send thank you cards to the donors. We had 9 donors total, and we will be working this week on writing thank you cards to send. It is also requested that we post pictures of the Ozobots being used in hands on learning on the website so that the donors can see it in action. However, I want to make sure I have parent permission for this. If you give permission for your child being in the photo, please let me know.
I was introduced to Ozobots at a workshop this summer, and I loved the hands on learning! I am excited to see the kids become programmers in the classroom!

- Please send a snack to school daily.
