Hi Parents!
I am having a hard time believing we only have two weeks until our holiday break! This year is flying by, and your kiddos have been working VERY hard! They deserve a nice, long break!
The Science kits that are provided by our fabulous PTA came home today. These will need to be returned on Monday.
This week Eva was our Star Student, and we enjoyed learning more about her. Chase will be our Star Student next week.
In Language Arts, we focused on inferences, retelling a story, and made text to self connections with Wimberly Worried. In Writer's Workshop, we focused on creating a beginning, middle, and end of a story. The kids have been doing a fantastic job of using their word wall, and sounding out words, while writing a story. We've been working on capitalization, space, and punctuation...and they are really coming along!
Handwriting Without Tears focused on the letters O and Q.
In math we worked with ordinal numbers. We had a lot of activities to help us identify and arrange ordinal numbers, and they had a blast! We made a class book that modeled "10 Little Rubber Ducks" by Eric Carle...and each kiddo was assigned an ordinal number. They are looking forward to seeing it in our class library!
In Science we discussed objects in the sky. We made cloud observations, learned a lot of fun facts about the sun (ask them when you have a moment!), learned about stars, and the moon.
In Social Studies we learned about Maps. We started with a map of the classroom, then the school, next was the neighborhood, and finally we used Google Earth to explore our place in space.
Upcoming Dates:
Scholastic Book order due TODAY (Friday, Dec. 4)
Monday, Dec. 7- Due date for Giving Tree gift class contribution. (There is no amount too small!)
December 8th: TAG referral deadline
December 11th- Science Fair entry forms due
Thursday, Dec. 17th: Class holiday party @ 11:15 (last day of school before the holiday break!)
Friday, Dec. 18th: Teacher work day. No School!
Reminders:
- We have library on Monday. Please return books with your kiddo.
- Please remember to return the red reading folders. I am missing quite a few, and they have new books ready to go home. I know this a very busy time of year, and if you need extra time to complete the folder that's okay...please just send me an email to let me know.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Thanks for all you do!
